Celebrating Active Aging Week at Taylor

Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA), Active Aging Week, Sept. 24-30, calls attention to and wholeheartedly celebrates the positivity of aging today. It highlights the capabilities of older adults as fully participating members of society and spotlights the role models that lead the way.

Taylor Community will celebrate with a number of events that are open to the public. For more information or registration for all events, please contact Tammy Levesque at 366-1206.

Tai Chi on the Taylor Home Front Lawn with Master Russell Jones – Monday, Sept. 25, 10:30 a.m. This is a 40-minute basic-level class. In the event of inclement weather, the class will meet in the Woodside Building’s Elm Room.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2 p.m. beginning at the Woodside Building. Support the cause by contributing $25 to the Alzheimer’s Association and walk one-quarter mile, one-half mile or one mile, in support of research to find a cure. Stop by Woodside for an application.

TED Talks: “Life’s Third Act” and “Let’s End Ageism,” – Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2 p.m. in the Woodside Theater.

Hiking at Locke’s Hill, Gilford – Thursday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m. The group will depart from Woodside for a moderate to challenging hike. The summit features rock chairs and a beautiful view of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Special Morning Wake-Up Yoga – Friday, Sept. 29, 8:15 a.m. on the Woodside Pool Deck with Tammy. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a reviving session of mindful stretching and breathing exercises. Please dress warmly.

Active Aging Week challenges society’s diminished expectations of aging by showing that, regardless of age or health conditions, adults over 50 can live as fully as possible in all areas of life – physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational and environmental. The objective is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment, as well as promoting the benefits of healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span.
