the Hood Museum at Dartmouth, Michael Taylor, reflected on the importance of these exhibits in
the museum’s Quarterly magazine: “… the Hood’s collection of Native American art in an inspiring and
thought-provoking exhibition, … that explores the ties between older and living traditions and the vibrant artistic
life of the diverse indigenous cultures across the United States and Canada …. Given that the college’s original
mission was to provide an education to Native Americans, it is deeply meaningful to me that these will be the
first exhibitions to open during my tenure as director at the Hood.” A brief summary/explanation of this featured
exhibit will be offered by the museum staff and then you’ll be on your own to enjoy the rest of the museum
exhibits. Lunch will follow at the “99” restaurant in West Lebanon. There is no charge for the museum

Friday – January 20 – Stonyfield Farm & Yogurt Works in Londonderry, NH. [Easy]
Theirs is a story of remarkable success: They began in Wilton, New Hampshire in 1983 as a
farming school that taught sustainable agricultural practices with the goals of helping family
farms and the environment survive. From small beginnings – We had a leaky barn and just a
few Jersey cows, but also a great recipe for scrumptious yogurt” – they now have an organic business that
helps support “hundreds of family farms and keep over 200,000 agricultural acres free of persistent pesticides
and other chemicals commonly used on non-organic farms and known to contaminate soil, drinking water, air
and food.” We’ll learn more about Stonyfield’s story on our visit, we’ll learn about organic farming and
why it is so important to them and to us today and hear how Stonyfield yogurt is made. We’ll get to
have some yogurt as well! Before visiting the Farm and Yogurt Works we’ll have lunch at the Cracker Barrel.
The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia campus at 10:00 AM.
