The Federal Music Project of the 1930’s

Leslie Amper has created a lecture/piano recital program with images and historical recordings of the performance and educational activities of the Great Depression. Included are live performances of piano music, which was among 6,000 new American works written during the time of such difficulty.
The event, co-sponsored by the Laconia Historical and Museum Society, is Monday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Taylor Community’s Woodside Building. This free program is open to the public.
Featured composers include Florence Price, William Grant Still, Roger Sessions, Ruth Crawford and Aaron Copeland. Amper’s engaging and informative program clearly presents the vibrant contribution the Federal Music Project made to peoples’ lives all over the United States during the Great Depression.
