If we were living in northern New England 150 years ago, what music might we have sung, or played, or heard? How about 250 years ago in the mid-1700s? Did you know the first book printed in the colonies was for the purpose of singing?

These questions and others will be answered in a presentation by Dr. Robert Swift, Plymouth State University Professor of Music Emeritus on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at Taylor Community’s Woodside Building.

 Recordings and live performance will be included, with assistance from Margot Swift at the piano and Brendan Lynch on percussion. Attendees are advised to bring their vocal cords. Information will be drawn from lectures in Doctor Swift’s popular “Exploring Music” class at PSU. Remarks on the “Star-Spangled Banner” will be included in observance of its bicentennial year.
