Lecture on the Weeks Act at Back Bay Oct. 19

The Weeks Act of 1911 was named for John Wingate Weeks, born in Lancaster, NH. Initially contentious federal legislation, the Act ultimately enabled the protection and management of what is now our precious White Mountains National Forest (WMNF), encompassing nearly 800,000 acres.
Taylor Resident Vince Lunetta tells the story of the Weeks Act, Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. on Taylor Community’s Back Bay campus in the Community House, 66 Taylor Drive, Wolfeboro. This free event is open to the public.
This legislation enabled the creation of 41 eastern National Forests that protect and manage more than 20 million acres in 24 states. The presentation features historical and contemporary photos and video clips primarily in the WMNF; a discussion of progress made over the years as well as addressing future concerns.
