July 1, 2013Trips have descriptors – Easy, Moderate and Independent – which indicates the degree of mobility (walking, standing, stepping, etc.) required in order to safely participate and enjoy the trip.
Please Note: There is a $5 fee charged for cancellations within 72 hours of a trip. If a trip requires prepaid tickets or entry fees, you cannot be reimbursed if you cancel from the trip or if Taylor needs to cancel due to weather conditions that make driving unsafe. Non-resident pay a $10 fee for going on Taylor Community trips.
Note: Sue is on vacation July 16-24, so there are no trips scheduled during that time.
Wednesday – July 3 – InterLakes Summer Theater production of “Dream Girls” (2 p.m. Matinee) This Broadway musical follows the story of a group of young female singers from Chicago called “The Dreams” who later become music superstars. The musical opened on December 20, 1981 and was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for best musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture. There was a June 5 deadline to purchase tickets for this show; please contact Sue Williams for ticket availability. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 1 p.m. (EASY)
Saturday – July 6 – “Meet the Clydesdales” This is your opportunity for an up close visit with the famous Budweiser horses of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Merrimack, NH. Come home with a photo of you and one of these beautiful Clydesdales. Tours of the brewery will be available as well as complimentary samples. We will have lunch on the way home at the Homestead Restaurant in Merrimack. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus @ 9 a.m. *Early sign-up was offered for this trip; please call for seat availability. (EASY TO MODERATE)
Monday – July 8 – 1st Trip for Dessert at Sawyer’s Dairy Bar See the July Calendar Descriptions for early sign-up details. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 6 p.m. (EASY)
Friday – July 12 – Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway and Ski Museum The Ski Museum is located at the base of the tramway and houses a collection of ski memorabilia and history. Browse in the Museum Shop and check out the vintage film/videos shown continuously to visitors. There is also an Old Man of the Mountain exhibit in the Tramway Building. We will take the Aerial Tramway to the summit for spectacular views of the White Mountains and have lunch in the base cafe or summit cafeteria. The ride to the summit is free to NH Senior Citizens during the week but you must show proof of NH residency and your age. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 9:30 a.m. (EASY TO MODERATE – A LOT OF WALKING)
Monday – July 15 – 2nd Trip for Dessert at Sawyer’s Dairy Bar The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia campus at 6p.m. Please see July Calendar Descriptions for sign-up details. (EASY)
Friday – July 26 – Lake Winnipesaukee Museum, Lunch at Hart’s Turkey Farm, Long View Country Store and Kellerhaus The Museum property is an historic landmark and represents an era which changed the way Americans spent their summer vacations. Exhibits include “Souvenirs from the Past,” “The Steamboat Era,” “Waterskiing on Winnipesaukee and the Weirs Ski Club” and “Summer Camps on Lake Winnipesaukee.” Hart’s Turkey Farm will tempt your taste buds with a full portion entree or a mini-menu for the less “Harty.” At the Long View Country Store you will find country gifts, gourmet food, and penny candy… a nostalgic trip back to the country stores of your grandparents’ era, with time-proven merchandise displayed in a turn-of-the-century setting. The final stop of our journey will be at Kellerhaus. You will be tempted by home-made ice cream, candy and a wide variety of gifts. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia campus at 10 a.m. (EASY)
Monday – July 29 – Dining out at the Hilltop Restaurant at Steele Hill Resort The food is said to be as good as the views of the lake and the Belknap Mountain Range. The dinner menu includes regional favorites, fresh seafood, aged beef and a selection of chef’s specialties. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus @ 5 p.m. (EASY – SOME STEPS INTO THE RESORT)
Saturday – August 3 – Multicultural Day in Downtown Laconia This celebration is to honor and celebrate the growing diversity in the Lakes Region. Enjoy music, arts, crafts and cuisine from a multitude of cultures from around the world. The festival starts off with the parade of flags from around the world, followed by a welcome from Laconia Mayor Mike Seymour. You can choose to sit under the tent and enjoy the music and dance groups or you can wander through the booths and watch craft demonstrations. Remember to bring a folding chair, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 9:30 a.m. and we will plan on returning to the campus at 2 p.m. (EASY TO MODERATE – A LOT OF WALKING)
Wednesday – August 7– Fisher Cats Game in Manchester Plan on bringing a hat, sunglasses and an appetite for ballgame fare. The only day-time games are coordinated with camp/splash days so be prepared for a lot of children. The game is fun and interactive and participants have always had a good time. Early sign-up applies to this trip; the deadline is July 8. Game time is scheduled for 12:05, so the bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 10 a.m.. The bus will make a stop at Concord Trailways in Concord at approximately 10:55 a.m. for the convenience of our satellite residents. One Lucky Taylor Community Resident will be chosen to throw out the first pitch. (EASY TO MODERATE- STAIRS AND WALKING TO SEATS)
Saturday – August 10 – NH Music Festival Pops Concert This concert is a musical celebration of the Big Band era, from its roots all the way to the Big Bands of today. Selections will include “In the Mood,” “Opus One,” “Moon Glow” and music from artists like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and Quincy Jones. Early sign-up applies to this trip; the reservation deadline is July 8th as tickets need to be purchased in advance. Please refer to the July Calendar Descriptions for ticket prices. Sue Williams will need your check made out to Taylor Community according to the ticket you choose when you sign up. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia campus at 6:45 p.m. (EASY)
Monday – August 12 – 1st Trip for Dessert at Jordan’s Ice Cream Residents who are put on this trip can sign up for the 2nd trip but will automatically be put on a wait list. This is only to be fair and give more residents the opportunity to sign up. Remember, if you do not make the sign-up for this trip you will automatically be put on the list for the 2nd trip (August 26) listed below. The bus will begin picking residents up on the Laconia campus at 1:30 p.m. (EASY)
Wednesday – August 14 – Dining out at Sandy Point Restaurant Enjoy lobster any way you like it, or choose from their many menu selections. The restaurant is under new ownership but the great food and service have not changed. As always, a stop at Johnson’s for dessert as the last course. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 4 p.m. (EASY)
Monday – August 19 – Winnipesaukee Theater Production of “The Fantastiks” Remember the song “Try to Remember”? This Broadway musical will certainly bring back many memories. The playhouse is in its new home on the grounds of the former Annalee Dolls and considered a state-of-the-art theater. Tickets have already been purchased for this program; please give Sue Williams a check for $27 made out to Taylor Community prior to this trip. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 6:45 p.m. (EASY)
Wednesday – August 21 – M.S. Mount Washington Cruise All aboard! We will board at the Weirs and cruise beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee for 2.5 hours as we relax and enjoy lunch from the ship’s cafeteria. With capacity of 1250 passengers, “The Mount” is a popular venue for events, gatherings and tourism, and a true fixture in the Lakes Region. Tickets are $29 and will be purchased by August 2nd. Please give Sue Williams a check made out to Taylor Community by this date. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia campus at 11:15 a.m. (EASY TO MODERATE – MUST NAVIGATE DOWN THE RAMP)

Friday – August 30 – Gilmanton Historical Society and the Society’s Museum Tour The Museum is located in the Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works and houses artifacts, photographs and written material. We will stop at Jordan’s for ice cream on the way home. The bus will begin picking up residents on the Laconia Campus at 9:45 a.m. (EASY)
