WWII Propaganda, Patriotism, Posters & the Power of Persuasion
July 8, 2019Propaganda posters are one of the most lasting visual reminders of World War II, with iconic images like Rosie the Riveter still used today. Yet the poster was not the only means of communication used to gain the support of the American public for the allied war effort.
Justin Gamache, curator at the Wright Museum of World War II, will present a lecture Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m., at Taylor Community’s Back Bay Campus, 66 Taylor Drive, Wolfeboro. This free event is open to the public. His talk will explore the history of American propaganda with examples of the various media used by the U.S. Government and private publishers.
Gamache is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He earned his B.A. in history studying the history of modern Europe, the United States, and World War II, and his M.A. in Museum Studies at UNH in 2018. His program on WWII Propaganda was recently presented at the Rochester Public Library in conjunction with the discovery of a long-forgotten collection of WWI and WWII posters.
